The Sangam City - Erstwhile Prayag - Allahabad

Image
This is a great month in terms of catering to the taste buds and worst from the view of health consciousness – and it’s not me to blame for any of the two. It is the marriage season for India and so I am attending such functions almost every weekend. While some of these are social obligations for being in the city with a lot of known ones, others are simply so special that you travel out of your city to attend them. This was one such trip which doubled up as an excursion around the Sangam City - Allahabad. Allahabad, previously known as Prayag, is a city of many talents. Apart from being of pivotal importance as a religious center, the city is home to many PMs of India and is center of political and judicial activism. Started from the familiar station of the New Delhi and boarded the Prayagraj Express to reach Allahabad, the next morning at 7. Since I did some schooling in the city, I was familiar with the neighborhood of the station and hence it was not difficult to reach the guest ho...

Tinseltown - Los Angeles - City of Angels

This post is description of my experience during my stay in Los Angeles. During fall of 2010, I was attending the Anderson Business School of UCLA as part of my exchange program. Let me tell you at the onset that it was one of my wonderful experiences I have had. After initial ice breaking events, welcome ceremonies and orientation sessions we were off to start our term. During my stay there, I travelled to a number of cities in and around California which have been covered in separate posts. However, during the 4 months when Los Angeles was my temporary abode, I covered numerous spots of tourist interests in the city and suburban areas. Now in general most of my posts are continuous documentation of my experience, however this one ought to be different owing to the fact that the points of int...

Dad and Mom have just returned from an official trip to Shimla and so I thought what could be a better time to put down my memories from the winter trip to Shimla we had last December. With the thought came the enthusiasm to activate my writing side and here I begin at the stroke of the midnight!! It was early December in 2012 when we were planning on how to spend the Christmas that year and after due thought came up the plan to visit Shimla – queen of hills. Younger brother Amit’s persuasive skills were tested and proved as he was the one to have insisted for the destination. As per the plan we booked our tickets and got the logistics arranged. We started from Delhi on the morning of 22 nd by the Kalka Shatabdi which ofcourse would drop us at Kalka. As most of the hill destinations have, Kalka is the   base station for Shimla from where the climb for the hill actually begins. One of the attractions of Shimla is the toy train ride from Kalka to Shimla and so it could not have been mis...
